Vickie Banks was born and raised in Galesburg and taught in the district for twenty years at Cooke and King Elementary Schools. She graduated from Galesburg High School and has a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in education from Western Illinois University and a Master's degree in social work from the University of Illinois. She spent fifteen years as an investigator, supervisor, and manager for the Department of Children and Family Services. She was a founding board member of the Child Advocacy Center and has been on the Board of Safe Harbor for many years. She has been a volunteer teacher for adults students in the English as a Second Language program for several years. Four of her eight grandchildren graduated from Galesburg High School and two still attend Galesburg schools. Vickie believes that we have an obligation to provide the best possible education for all students while being fiscally responsible, transparent, and accessible. We must recognize that the Board, the administration, the staff, the parents, the community and the students are all stakeholders and deserve respect and responsiveness as we work together for a district that is student-centered.
