This is my second year as principal of Steele, I continue to feel blessed to be a part of the Galesburg 205 School District and especially the Steele School family.   I have had a year to observe our teachers in action; there is a reason that the reputation of our teachers is excellent!  I have also come to know that all our other staff members-- custodians, kitchen staff, secretaries, and instructional aides—are just as dedicated, caring, and student-centered.

We as a staff have high expectations of our students, academically as well as behaviorally.  We will work together to provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for students so that they may learn to their true potential.  We look forward to you, parents and guardians, being partners with us as we all work to support your children’s growth.  You can do this by supporting our behavior expectations, checking on your children’s homework, reading to your children or having them read to you every day, and contacting your children’s teachers and me if you have any concerns or questions.  If we all work together, we can make this a terrific year!

If you wish to be even more involved, I know that the PTO is looking for volunteers to help with events that they will sponsor throughout the year.  They are also looking for more parents to become part of the organization’s Board.  If you are interested, please let me know so that I may pass on your name to the PTO.

Again, I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Streeter

As your principal, I wanted to welcome you to the Steele Elementary School Community if you are new to our school, and to welcome you back if you are already a member of our school community!  I hope that you had a fun and relaxing summer and are back into the school routine for the 2008-2009 school year.

Text Box: Parents: As you know, a new type of flu called H1N1 (or Swine Flu) has entered the United States.  There is one known case of this flu in Knox County.  Like other types of influenza, it is a respiratory illness.  Symptoms include fever and cough, sore throat or nasal congestion.  If you child experiences these symptoms, please keep them at home and contact your health provider.

To prevent all types of illness, school children should be encouraged to WASH THEIR HANDS OFTEN and cover their nose and mouth with a tissue or the inside of their elbow when coughing or sneezing.

We appreciate your diligence in keeping your children as healthy as possible. – District 205 School Nurses
