It’s Log Cabin Time in

Mrs. K.R.’s Class

The 4th graders in Mrs. K.R.’s class have been working on a combined Language Arts and Social Studies unit.  They’ve been studying the settlers and their westward movement in the U.S., and specifically the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder.   They were given three weeks in which to make a log cabin at home – families were encouraged to help them.  They had a rubric with directions on how to construct their cabin, but they also could add people, animals, and/or landscape.  Each student also wrote a one page essay comparing and contrasting living in a log cabin (a long time ago) to living in a modern home today – and had to give a short oral presentation to the class about their cabin’s construction.
