What do we want our students to know and do?
Galesburg CUSD #205 looks at both attainment and growth. Galesburg CUSD #205 teachers work on differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students, while moving students towards attainment of subject and grade level standards.
How will we know if each student has learned it?
Teachers use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress. Some of the assessments used include AIMSwebPlus, iReady Diagnostic for math and reading, NWEA Map Growth, Kindergarten Individual Development Survey (KIDS), Illinois Assessment of Readiness(IAR), Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM), ACCESS, Preliminary SAT (PSAT), SAT, Advanced Placement exams(AP), and Seal of Biliteracy are given to students and used to design curriculum. The attached assessment calendars show which grade levels and student groups take each exam.
How will we respond when some students do not learn it?
The classroom teachers create plans that include reteaching and reassessing students who do not learn a skill or concept. The kindergarten through fourth grade buildings have staff designated to support students who benefit from additional support. These staff members provide interventions and progress monitor students' response to the interventions.
The fifth and sixth grade building provides an extra class for literacy and math support for students needing additional support and practice. Staff monitors students’ progress and adjusts instruction accordingly.
Galesburg Junior Senior High School provides Edgenuity as a class for students needing credit recovery. A certified teacher helps and supports students as they take classes. Students are also offered opportunities for concept recovery at the end of the term, if they are not passing a class but they could benefit from reviewing specific concepts.
All grade levels offer summer school to students. Summer school focuses on reviewing and reteaching reading and math concepts to students at the K-8 level. Summer school at the 9-12 level focuses on credit recovery.
