Course Description: This course combines the elements of music, movement, and marching. The Marching Streaks perform at community parades, home varsity football games, and marching competitions throughout the state. Attendance at summer rehearsals, band camp, and 1-2 weekly rehearsals outside the school day are required. Some students may be placed on alternate status to maintain the integrity of each performance. Students enrolled in marching band will qualify for a P.E. waiver during term 1.

In addition to Marching Band, students must be enrolled in one of the concert bands (Symphonic Band or Wind Symphony).

Expected Course Outcomes:

Individual responsibility for all equipment and uniform pieces
Understand relationships between music and movement
Establish intonation in the large ensemble
Listen to and compare with the original work our marching band arrangements
Listen to and evaluate audio and visual tapes of our performances
Gain experience with memorization and memorization techniques
Understand different meters and notation
Understand a coordinate grid and be able to read a dot card
Play in an ensemble with good tone, good balance and good blend
Match a pitch vocally and with their instrument
Reinforce new rhythmic and metric ideas
Understanding different tonalities
Develop technique with different scales
Develop ear training and error detection
