While most students at Silas Willard Elementary spent their winter recesses playing, two young engineers were busy building a tower masterpiece with K'nex.

Ryan Peterson and Beckett Polite have officially completed an ambitious engineering science project that has been months in the making. They began back in November, working from a complex blueprint that would eventually evolve into an intricate, extravagant design built entirely from the iconic color-coded rods and connectors.

While most of their classmates finished their projects last quarter, Peterson and Polite chose to take their project to the next level. The scale and detail of their design required extra time, leading them to voluntarily give up their recess periods for weeks on end.

This is a project that their teacher, Ms. Hua, enjoys with her classes each year, she enjoys seeing what students will design, create, and build.
