Students in grades 7–12 explored career opportunities in manufacturing, the skilled trades, and other fields during the annual Galesburg Area Vocational Center (GAVC) Manufacturing and Trades Showcase on Thursday, October 22.
More than 30 area businesses and organizations participated in the event, connecting with students from Galesburg Junior Senior High School and GAVC’s area school partners. Representatives shared information about their industries, career pathways, and opportunities available after high school, including careers in manufacturing, the skilled trades, and the military.
According to GAVC Director Adam Seaney, “The Manufacturing and Trades Showcase gives students the opportunity to connect with local employers and learn about the many career paths available to them after high school. We want students to understand the opportunities in our own community and see how their interests and skills can translate into a successful career.”
The showcase introduces students to alternatives to a traditional two- or four-year college path, including opportunities to pursue specialized training, develop in-demand skills, and enter the workforce.
By connecting students directly with local employers and industry professionals, the annual showcase helps students explore their interests, discover potential career paths, and consider the many options available as they plan for life after high school.
