The Galesburg CUSD #205 School District would like to thank the community members, staff, students, and families who were in attendance at the school safety forum on Tuesday, November 1. 

The night began with a presentation by Galesburg Junior Senior High Principal, Tom Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins reviewed data from each building and included information regarding support resources available to students and staff. 

The panel discussion followed the data presentation. We want to thank the entire panel for offering their opinions and answering the questions that were asked.

Following the panel discussion, those in attendance were divided up into small discussion groups.

General feedback included bringing in outside organizations to provide mentorship programs for students as well as providing more opportunities for students to explore. 

The Streaks Mom and Dad program has been active at Galesburg Junior Senior High School and after hearing the feedback, they have also started to visit Lombard Middle School. If you are interested in learning more about the program please contact Rev. James Hailey at 618-580-8594.

Additionally, according to Galesburg Junior Senior High School principal, Tom Hawkins, “Based upon the feedback we have received from community members we have already received assistance from other student organizations.  Anthony Law and students from Carl Sandburg College, Men of Distinction/Women of Character, have volunteered their time to sit and mentor our students during our lunch periods.  We are also in the process of creating a student advisory committee to focus on issues that are important to students.”
