The third annual International SEL Day is today, March 11, 2022! SEL Day is an opportunity to collectively spread the word about the importance and impact of social emotional learning. Social and emotional learning is the process through which we acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. NAEIR has a long history of supporting the arts in our community and has recently donated a much needed Yamaha Baritone Saxophone to the GHS Band Program! #Thisis205
The #205 All-District Band Concert was held on March 1 in Thiel Gymnasium. "Space" was the theme of the evening. During the concert, the audience had the opportunity to hear the talents of over 370 band students in grades 5-12. The finale was an arrangement of Star Wars performed all band students playing together. #Thisis205

The GHS Wind Symphony performed over the weekend at the WIU Showcase of Bands. Students participated in sectionals and masterclasses from the music faculty at WIU along with having rehearsals with Colonel Lowell Graham, retired Commander and Conductor of the U.S. Navy Band in Washington D.C. The event concluded on Saturday with a combined concert in the COFAC Recital Hall with the GHS Wind Symphony and the Yorkville High School Wind Ensemble. Students had the privilege of Colonel Graham conducting them when they performed their middle piece of the concert titled, "One Life Beautiful." Students did an amazing job and we are so proud of the high level of commitment and performance that they displayed at WIU!

The Churchill 8th grade band performed today for the IGSMA Organizational contest at Germantown Hills Middle School! The band had an amazing performance and received a division 1 rating. Congratulations! #wearestreaks #thisis205

Masks have been required in our schools for nearly two years. Beginning today, those entering our schools are not required to wear a mask. This abrupt change will cause some to celebrate, and others to be fearful or anxious. We ask families to partner with educators and have a conversation with your students to above all be kind to others, regardless of whether they are wearing a mask or not. We aim to celebrate our differences in District #205, and challenge all to lead with kindness and care.
